Patent Prosecution Associate - Electrical Engineering / Computer Science - Renner Otto (Cleveland, OH)

  • Description:  Responsibilities include all aspects of patent practice including preparation and prosecution of patent applications and patent opinion work.  This is a partnership track position.

  • Qualifications:  Successful candidates must have excellent academic credentials with a degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.  Work experience in engineering is also a plus.  Admission to the Patent Bar and JD from an ABA-approved law school is required.  Ohio state bar membership is preferred but not required.  The ideal candidate will have between 2 and 5 years of patent drafting and prosecution experience in electrical and computer technology.

  • Trademark/Copyright Litigation Associate:  Candidates must have a minimum of three years of general litigation experience and/or significant TTAB experience, including experience preparing and arguing motions, taking depositions, handling complex discovery and ESI, and preparing cases for trial.  Trademarks and copyrights clearance, prosecution and transactional work is preferred.  A technical background is not required.  Successful candidates should have a license to practice in Ohio, strong academic credentials and excellent research, writing, analytical, and communication skills, as well as a desire to work in a collegial atmosphere with an emphasis on training, significant client contact, and a wide range of work handling complex trademark litigation matters for regional and national clients of all sizes.

  • Patent Associate (biochemistry or chemistry):  This position requires a minimum of three years of patent preparation and prosecution experience and at least a B.S. in Biochemistry or Chemistry.  Admission to a state bar and USPTO registration is required.  A Ph.D. and/or industry experience is preferred.  Experience with pharmaceutical or biotechnology subject matters is a plus.  Successful candidates have strong academic credentials and excellent research, writing, analytical, and communication skills, as well as a desire to work in a collegial atmosphere with an emphasis on training, significant client contact, and a wide range of work, including patent preparation and prosecution, portfolio management, strategic analysis, and opinion work.
