CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS


The Paralegal position is responsible for providing legal and administrative support to in-house counsel. Legal support includes, without limitation, those tasks and responsibilities generally performed by paralegals in law firms and corporate legal departments.

1. IP/Patent portfolio management, documentation, docketing and maintenance:

a. Acquire and maintain knowledge of company systems, tools and processes and procedures related to the documentation and protection of IP assets worldwide.

b. Collaborate with business units and corporate departments on the collection, preparation and filing of documents and related correspondence for IP assets.

c. Assist attorneys with IP filings, correspondence and docketing and daily practice management.

d. Possess and maintain knowledge of systems and procedures for protection of IP assets with government and administrative agencies worldwide.

2. Intellectual Property/ Patent Support:

a. Conduct computer searches to determine availability of proposed patents.

b. Prepare and file domestic patent applications, affidavits and renewals.

c. Coordinate with foreign counsel to file foreign patent applications, affidavits and renewals.

d. Prepare documents necessary to assert or defend patent oppositions and cancellations.

e. Assist Corporate Counsel on the collection of information to file domestic and foreign office action responses

f. Maintain electronic docketing system for patent activities.

3. Docketing (including processing IP communications to and from outside/foreign counsel and the USPTO and docketing due dates as necessary), document preparation (including filing papers, draft responses), electronic filing, foreign and international IP filings (including corresponding with foreign associates), assisting attorneys with IP filing metrics, cost reduction projects and internal process efficiencies (including maintaining a best practices handbook for IP matters).

4. Administrative Support:

a. Administrative support may include, without limitation, the oversight and use of electronic matter management, docketing, billing and budgeting systems, the processing of new matters and the preparation of various reports and analyses.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

1. FORMAL EDUCATION:

a. Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Paralegal Certification OR Associate Degree in Paralegal Studies

b. Preferred:

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

2. KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

• Required:

• Minimum five years of IP legal or administrative experience

• Familiarity and expertise with IP rules, regulations and procedures

• Preferred:

o More than five years of job-related experience.

o Law firm or corporate experience.

o Familiarity with foreign IP rules, regulations and procedures

Curatolo Sidoti & Trillis, Co. LPA is seeking a detail-oriented and highly motivated Intellectual Property Docketing Specialist to be based in our Westlake, Ohio office on a part-time basis.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities include managing and maintaining the firm’s docket using a dedicated IP docketing platform; processing all incoming and completed domestic and foreign IP matter due dates; create new matter records in docketing platform; ongoing monitoring of all due dates for legal matters; generating docketing reports for attorneys; collaborating with attorneys and other administrative staff regarding the docketing and other work-flow matters.


Skills & Experience: Strong computer skills are essential for this position.  The successful candidate must be able to work independently and collaboratively as a team with other staff and attorneys.  Strong database skills are required.  Microsoft Office 365 software suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point).  Prior docket management experience at a law firm and familiarity with intellectual property (patents and trademarks) matters is desirable, but not required.
