TOPIC: International Hague Designs: What every practitioner should know.
The Hague Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Industrial Designs (Hague Agreement) went into effect for the US on May 13, 2015. For the first time, US applicants can now file a single international design application as a vehicle to obtain design protection in a significant number of countries around the world. This may potentially reduce costs and make it easier to develop and manage a worldwide design patent portfolio.

Darrell is a principal shareholder of Banner Witcoff, and the past president of the D.C. Bar. Darrell provides strategic counseling in intellectual property protection related to patent and trademark matters, including procurement, opinions, licensing and litigation. Darrell is an adjunct professor at The George Washington University Law School teaching classes in design law. He is a contributing author to Navigating Fashion Law: Leading Lawyers on Exploring the Trends, Cases, and Strategies of Fashion Law.

TOPIC: Idenix Pharmaceuticals Inc. et al. v. Gilead Sciences Inc.: A case about the cure for Hepatitis C, and (for a while) the largest patent jury verdict in history.
Calvin Griffith, Jones Day
Attorney Griffith’s intellectual property litigation experience includes numerous cases involving patents, trade secrets, and copyrights. He has litigated cases in district courts throughout the United States as well as the U.S. International Trade Commission. As lead trial lawyer in patent cases, he won jury verdicts that total more than $3 billion and obtained numerous defense verdicts. His patent cases have involved diverse technologies, including: software and systems, computer hardware, semiconductors, medical devices, consumer products, and biotechnologies. In addition to intellectual property matters, he has litigated in the areas of antitrust, unfair competition, and complex commercial litigation.
