Judge Deshpande received a J.D. degree from The Ohio State University and a degree in Engineering from Case Western Reserve University. Subsequent to his graduation from Case Western Reserve University, Judge Deshpande worked for Accenture, specializing in software development and implementation. During and after law school, he worked at the early-stage food services company Viands Concerted, LLC. He joined the Board in as a Patent Attorney and began serving as an Administrative Patent Judge at the Board in 2011.
