Succeeding In Europe: Practical Tips For US Attorneys
Presenters: Stewart Cameron & Avir Patel, Cameron Intellectual Property, United Kingdom
Stewart Cameron and Avir Patel are visiting Northeast Ohio from the UK. They will offer an overview of patent and trademark practice in Europe. Topics include how the EPO is structured, the background of EPO examiners, and insights into how they think. They will provide practical tips as to how US attorneys can work with their European colleagues to persuade EPO examiners and effectively respond to office actions.

Keynote Speaker: Frank Cullen, Executive Director, Council for Innovation Promotion
Innovation and IP: The Inextricable Link
The Council for Innovation Promotion (C4IP) is a bipartisan project launched by former USPTO Directors David Kappos and Andre Iancu and Judges Paul Michel and Kathleen O’Malley to advocate for improving the IP system. C4IP’s Executive Director Frank Cullen will explain how recent trends in IP legislation and caselaw have affected the innovation ecosystem/economy and U.S. global competitiveness. He will critique these changes and provide an explanation of and update on the latest legislative proposals. He will explain what actions leaders in Congress and the Executive Branch should take next, and how practicing lawyers can make a difference.
