1) Litigation Committee (1.00 hr CLE credit)

Topic: Almost a Decade of the Defend Trade Secrets Act

Speaker: Joshua Friedman, Calfee, Halter & Griswold LLP

Josh will discuss how the DTSA changed the nature of trade secret litigation nationally. He will provide an overview of the law as well as practice tips for would-be plaintiffs and defendants from pre-filing to damages.

Topic: Panel Discussion: The Evolving Workloads of In-house Counsel and How Outside IP Counsel May Better Assist

In-house counsels across industries have seen an uptick in workloads. This panel discussion delves into the swelling workloads that in-house counsels face and how the relationship with outside IP counsel impacts those workloads.

Keynote Topic: Leveraging Invalidity Proceedings to Strengthen Patent Quality

Keynote Speaker: Jonathan Stroud, General Counsel of Unified Patents (visiting from Washington, D.C.)

Jonathan manages Unified Patents' legal and corporate work, with a focus on Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), district court, and appellate litigation, contracting, general corporate matters, and settlement negotiations. Prior to joining Unified Patents, he was a patent attorney at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP, where he was involved in some of the earliest post-grant review work. Before that, he examined patents on implantable medical devices at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Jonathan has been published in the Columbia Science and Technology Law Review, the Administrative Law Review, the South Carolina Law Review, the American University Law Review, and the New Mexico Law Review, among others.
